Volunteer Income Tax Assistant Program to help you
Posted on 26. Feb, 2011
Each Year Internal Revenue Service (IRS) department launches number of programs to help taxpayers pay their taxes in time. Not all taxpayers are good at preparing and calculating their taxes correctly. As number of provisions of income tax change every year for some it is even difficult to keep pace with them. Though many taxpayers intend to pay their taxes in all honesty but still are not able to do so due to lack of information and understanding. Volunteer Income Tax Assistant more popularly known as VITA is one such program where IRS provides services of tax assistants to those who need them. For the year 2011 IRS has designated a amount of $ 11 million for this program and would be covering entire length and breadth of the country through this.
The main criteria to use these funds are as below:
- To cover such geographical regions and terrains which are difficult to reach and are often ignored by other commercial agencies.
- To encourage more and more tax payers to e-file their tax returns. The segments and regions from where taxpayers still prefer filing paper returns are targeted and awareness regarding benefits of e-file is spread.
- To improve the accuracy is tax preparation on the whole.
- To train volunteer under VITA program.
Like past years VITA continues to be a successful tool in hands of IRS through which they spread awareness and help taxpayers throughout the country. Numbers of organizations apply to take part in this program every year.
