Relief in Tax return deadline in year 2011
Posted on 21. Feb, 2011
We all know that last date to file income tax return is 15th April every year through the country. But this year things will be bit different. Income tax payers can file their annual income tax returns beyond 15th April. It has been announced well in advance by the Internal Revenue Service department regarding this change. For the year 2011 one can file their income tax returns by 18th April without any extension or late fee. So for those you who are planning their income tax return preparations must make a note regarding this in their dairies. Even for the people who still follow the conventional method of sending their returns to IRS through US post can do it now till 18th April 2011 and for those who are adopt more convenient method of e-filing their income tax returns are do it by midnight of 18th April 2011.
Now why this change has happened this year? Actually Department of Treasury in District Columbia will be closed on April 15th 2011 on account of Emancipation Day. Emancipation Day is a local holiday in District Columbia and as Internal Revenue Service department is a part of Department of Treasury they will also be closed on April 15th 2011. The following two days i.e., April 16th and 17th are weekends and hence cannot be used by tax payers to file their returns. Therefore it has been decided to allow time till April 18th 2011 for taxpayers to submit their tax returns. So let us all make a note in our planners and calendars regarding this and plan the tax weekend accordingly.
